Girl lost in poker game

A 17-year-old Pakistani girl, whose late father lost her in a poker game when she was 2 years old, is asking authorities to save her from being turned over to a middle-aged relative.

The girl’s father racked up a debt of 10,000 rupees ($151) with the 45-year-old male relative while playing cards. When he didn’t have the money to pay up, he told the man he could take his daughter once she grew up.

Even though the girl’s father paid the debt a year later, the man insists tribal customs dictate he should still get the girl. He wants the girl to marry his son.Police say they will make sure she does not have to do anything against her will.

Wanted: mistress for beating

A Chinese businessman has posted an advertisement on the Internet in search of a stand-in mistress. He needs someone for his wife to beat up, to vent her anger against his mistress without hurting the real one.

A Chinese newspaper reported that more than 10 people have applied for the position. They said the successful candidate must be 35 and from northeastern China. The candidate would receive 3,000 yuan ($400) per 10 minutes. Chinese businessmen frequently keep mistresses in second homes, a trend that was banished under communist rule. The practice has made a comeback in recent years.

Natural Viagra sells out

Tourists vacationing in Valparaiso, Chile have cleaned the town out of the indigenous herbal aphrodisiac palwen. The remedy is known as “Mapuche Viagra.”

The Vina del Mar song festival has brought tourists and performers to the town. The Mapuche pharmacy company says the herb increases the desire, libido and sexual appetite of men and women. The company is trying to restock its supply of palwen, which costs 2,000 pesos per bottle (about $3.70).

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is urging all levels of government to make restaurants include nutritional information on their menus. Officials at the center said American restaurants are promoting extreme eating with their over-sized portions. The group says this is contributing to national increases in obesity and heart disease.

Ruby Tuesday’s, Uno Chicago Grill and The Cheesecake Factory were all found to have dishes with around the same amount of calories as the suggested average daily intake, which is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men. Critics say the center is merely the self-appointed food police.

Mexican men who avoid sex with their wives or exhibit extremely jealous behavior might be punished under a new law protecting women. According to a special prosecutor for crimes against women, men who avoid marital sex, convince their wives they’re crazy even if they’ve been caught having an affair or stop talking to their wives are committing the crime of indifference. If husbands constantly suspect their wives of infidelity and check up on them, they are guilty of the crime of jealousy. A Mexican paper reported that if found guilty of such crimes, husbands could receive up to five years in prison.

Caravan of love

In response to an Internet plea, 150 women showed up by bus to a remote Spanish village. The travelers, commonly known as “una caravan de mujeres,” or “a caravan of women,” were met with the flowers and cheering of men looking for love. The men showed off their riding skills in a bid to woo the women.

A mass invitation seemed like the only answer for the 400-resident town facing a declining population. Another lonely Spanish village first attempted the caravan idea 20 years ago.
