the CTube
What’s more awesome than the theme song to “Lupin III”?
Nothing that currently comes to mind. That’s what makes today’s CTube so great. Japanese group Vanilla Mood plays the theme to the loveable anime series with a new twist – string instruments.
In this live recording, the focus of the show is on the harpist, who isn’t ashamed to improvise between the well-known portions of the theme song.

In a way, it recalls the Balanescu Quartet’s “Possessed,” a 1992 album of Kraftwerk covers. It forces you to reevaluate the intrinsic value of the musicianship of the composition.
I’ll admit to owning an entire album of Lupin III theme remixes, and while my favorite remains a vibraphone rendition of the song, Vanilla Mood’s effort is a solid one.
Looking for an entertaining video on YouTube can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. With users uploading at least 65,000 new videos a day, it’s hard to know what to look for and where to find it. That’s why the CT has created The CTube. Issue to issue, we’ll weed through all the good, bad and ugly that YouTube has to offer to find what we think, at the least, will hold your attention. No need to spend more time than necessary on YouTube when Facebook already consumes half of your day, right?
