BASEBALL

The Rams dropped 3 of 4 games with 18th-ranked San Diego. The Thursday night game was delayed after 10 innings due to darkness. With the game tied 4-4, San Diego scored a run in the bottom of the 11th to end game one on Friday morning. VCU won game two 6-4 in 10 innings.

Sergio Miranda (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) scored on a Chris Jackson (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) single to score the decisive run. Game three was not as close as San Diego won a slugfest 20-13. Brad Bonney (Norfolk, Va./Maury) hit a 3-run homer for the Rams. In the final game of the series, the Rams fell to the Toreros 8-2.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Previous to Saturday’s loss to Bradley, the Rams snapped a 10-game losing streak in Wilmington with a 78-68 victory over the Seahawks. Jamal Shuler (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville) led VCU with 18 points, including nine in a row midway through the second half. Eric Maynor (Fayetteville, N.C./Westover) continued his strong play, recording 15 points and seven assists and no turnovers.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Krystal Vaughn (Lake Clifton-Eastern/Baltimore, Md.) scored a game-high 17 points and the Rams jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead to cruise to a 68-54 victory over the William & Mary Tribe. LaKea Jones (Fort Washington, Md./National Christian Academy) added 14 points while Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

MEN’S TENNIS

The Rams bounced back from a loss against nationally-ranked Minnesota with a 6-1 victory over Winthrop yesterday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The winning streak has extended to three games after the Rams defeated 36th-ranked Pennsylvania and Maryland on consecutive days. The wins improve VCU to 11-2 on the season.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

In their strongest showing of the season, the Rams set nine personal bests. Verniece Johnson (Mineral, Va./Louisa), Whitney Key (Goochland, Va./Goochland) and Jessica Martin (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County) all set personal bests in the 200-meter dash.
