“It doesn’t matter if I come off the bench because I am consistent with my game,” said Vaughn.
“Ever since I have been injured I have come off the bench and I feel that I am playing the same and being aggressive,” she added.
Michele Cosel (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) got off to a hot start for the Rams, hitting two 3-pointers in the first seven minutes of the game. George Mason, who led 24-21 at halftime, could never extend their lead past four.
VCU opened the second half on an 11-4 to run to take a 32-28 lead. From there on, the Rams never looked back. George Mason’s Nikkia Slade kept the Patriots in the game by hitting shots as the Rams looked to slam the Patriots. She finished with 10 points. During the final nine minutes of the game, sophomore Quanitra Hollingsworth took over by scoring at will in the paint. She ended up with 18 points and 10 rebounds, her eighth double-double of the season and the 22nd of her career.
