Too young to “Go Wild”

The founder of “Girls Gone Wild” was fined $500,000 on Monday for violating laws regarding the exploitation of minors.

He pleaded guilty to two felony counts, received two years’ probation, plus 200 hours of community service.

Two females were shown in his “Ultimate Spring Break” video series without producing documentation of their age, which is required by law. The two 17-year-old girls are shown engaging in sexually explicit activities.

Hot for teacher

Sex sells education, too. In Hong Kong’s competitive world of schools and exams, secondary school tutors are marketed like models.

Many tutors hire their own team of designers and stylists to create and maintain their sexy image. Sex appeal is considered a qualification just as important as teaching ability.

Schools take out ads to show off their hot tutors and attract potential students.

Census research has shown that 25 percent more students sought private tutoring in the 2004-2005 school year than did five years earlier.

Shark-nabbing pastor

A Unification Church pastor from San Francisco pleaded guilty to helping smuggle leopard sharks. The sharks were being transported from California to European and American aquariums.

He was fined $100,000 and sentenced to a year and a day in prison. The pastor was one of six men charged with selling around 465 baby leopard sharks, which are protected by law.

Pooch hooch

Feeling lonely? Why not sit back and crack open a beer – with your dog! Thanks to the ingenuity of a Dutch pet shop owner, now you can.

The shop owner developed a non-alcoholic beer she could enjoy with her Weimaraners. The beer is made at a local brewery, from beef extract and malt. Humans can drink the beer, but it costs $2.14 a bottle.

How low can they go?

Just when you thought it’s all been done – “Big Brother,” “The Real World,” “Joe Millionaire,” “Extreme Makeover” – well apparently it hasn’t.

Reality show creators in the Netherlands are planning a dating game for the visibly disfigured.

Launching Feb. 20, “Love at Second Sight” is currently seeking participants. This is not the show’s first title, as it had to be changed after a newspaper poll showed audiences were turned off by the title “Monster Love.”

Show creators say it could help to end the prejudice these people experience. They think it will be a positive experience in which disfigured people can share their experiences and show they are not pitiful.
