We are a month into the basketball season. The men are 4-2, and the women are kicking some major butt at 6-0. Both teams look good and are primed to make a run at a CAA title. One can hope anyway. The men were picked to finish 6th in the CAA this year in a pre-season coaches poll.

The men were picked to finish 6th in the CAA this year in a pre-season coaches poll. The women were picked to finish 7th.
With the use of CT resources, we thought would introduce you to each squad’s “starting five.” Who we consider the best of the best. The keys to the game.

As the season progresses we’ll introduce you to more of our power players.

Women’s Basketball

Michele Cosel
(10) Guard, Senior

Scouts Say:
One of squads top defenders.

Biography:
Guard at Atlee High School. First team All-Capital District and Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro honors. Honorable mention All-State by virginiapreps.com. Was named the 2003 Capital District and Central Region Player of the Year in soccer. Undecided on a major. Born May 16, 1985.

Lakea Jones
(13) Point Guard, Junior

Scouts Say:
Natural team leader. Excellent shooter. A scoring threat.

Biography:
Twice earned honorable mention All-Metro honors from The Washington Post. McDonald’s All-American nominee. Four time Who’s Who among American high school students. Majoring in psychology. Born July 29, 1986.

Krystal Vaughn
(5) Forward, Junior

Scouts Say:
Has “formidable” inside game, but also has great ability to drain buckets from perimeter.

Biography:
Was named CAA co-player of the week Monday. Averaged a double-double in every game as senior at Lake Clifton-Eastern high school, which earned recognition as first team All-City and second team All-Metro from The Baltimore Sun. Ran four years of high school cross country, and played three years of softball and volleyball. Majoring in sport management. Born Sept. 8, 1986.

D’Andra Moss
(24) Forward, Freshman

Scouts Say:
Considered strongest on team. Deceptively nimble. Had knee surgery last season, but is expected to be back at 100 percent.

Biography:
Averaged 20 points per game as a senior at Norcross High School in Georgia. Selected high school All State following junior and senior years. A McDonald’s All-American Nominee her senior year. Majoring in pre-dentistry. Born February 21, 1988.

Quanitra Hollingsworth
(00) Center, Sophomore

Scouts Say:
Talented athlete that has “formidable” presence in the paint.

Biography:
Averaged 13.5 points per game as a senior at Great Bridge High School, and led the team to the Eastern Region tournament in 2004. Went to high school at 11 years old. Graduated with honors at 15 years old. Majoring in computer engineering. Born November 15, 1988.

Men’s Basketball

Eric Maynor
(03) Point Guard, Sophomore

Scouts Say:
All around talent. Top passer and shooter. Good leader.

Biography:
Averaged 18 points a game in senior at Westover High School. Eastern Regional MVP. District and conference player of the year. Undecided on a major. Born June 11, 1987.

Michael Anderson
(15) Forward, Junior

Scouts Say:
Versatile. Has utility talent and can play multiple positions. Defensive ability to watch.

Biography:
Two-time First Team All-Beach at Landstown High School. Competed in high jump for the track and field team. Born April 7, 1986.

B.A. Walker
(20) Guard, Senior

Scouts Say:
Top shooter, especially from outside. Nimble feet on court. Great leader.

Biography:
VCU’s career three-point leader. The 25th player to score 1,000-points. Averaged 28 points a game as senior at Nandua high school. Amassed 2,257 points in four seasons. MVP of the East Squad at the 2003 Virginia High School All-Star Game. Three-time Region A player of the year, and second team All-State. Listed in Who’s Who among American high school students. Majoring in sports management. Born December 4, 1984.

Jesse Pellot-Rosa
(23) Guard, Senior

Scouts Say:
Locally developed talent. Top all-around athlete. Tough defender. Can play shooting guard or small forward.

Biography:
Scored career-high 20 points last week against Hampton University. Spent a year playing football at Fork Union Military Academy before attending VCU. Graduated from George Wythe high school. 2001-02 Richmond Times-Dispatch Metro Player of the Year, and a McDonald’s All-America nominee. Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro in football as a junior. Majoring in business. Born July 4, 1984.

Calvin Roland
(30) Center, Senior

Scouts Say:
In a word: big. Strong inside player. Top all-around athlete, though better defender than shooter. Top shot blocker. Will improve as season continues.

Biography:
Played for Augusta Metros and Georgia Stars. Very active in church in Martinez, Ga. Plans to major in sports management. Born Nov. 18, 1983.
