New toy promotes fun and fitness

A new step exercise machine aimed at children under the age of 12 aspires to take over kiddie play time, putting a new twist on fitness and fun. The machine, Step2Play, caters to today’s growing trend of children gamers. It links directly to a child’s computer game console and will only allow the controller to work if the child “keeps up a constant pre-set rate of exercise.”

The system can be used with any Playstation game and can be used by two players using different steppers and controllers.

A Michigan man was charged on Friday with the killing of 60-year-old Edgar Hawkes last March after accidentally confessing to shooting him in the head during a game of “Name the stupidest thing you have ever done.” Jerry Rose, 29, was formally charged in District Court with one count of open murder, one count of armed robbery and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a crime after allegedly confessing at a summer party during the light-hearted game.

Fight club teaches would-be robber a lesson

A would-be robber became a punching dummy in Canada after breaking into a beauty salon that shares its building with the Champion Fight Club Friday morning. The thief, a 40-year-old man with “a significant history with the police,” smashed the window of the beauty salon with a hammer only to find the owner of the club there. The club owner, Dave Lochert, who is trained in seven types of self-defense and is ranked among Canada’s top 10 kickboxers and third in the World Kickboxing League, had run up to the salon after hearing glass shatter. When the suspect refused to leave after being asked, Lochert took matters into his own hands and was able to take the thief’s hammer and physically sustain him until police arrived.
