Blowing smoke

Smokers have it tough going in today’s society. In more places, from airplanes to shopping malls, they must extinguish and endure in anguish the time until they can next grab a smoke.

It is understandable, then, that students who choose to smoke would use the opportunity between classes to light up. But on rainy days when smokers tend to gather around building entrances, it can be difficult to avoid breathing in the smoke of others. Even worse is getting stuck behind a smoker while walking.

Since the Surgeon General’s report on deaths caused by secondhand smoke released in May, there is no longer any doubt that even a little exposure to others’ smoke can be harmful. For those who choose to indulge in the habit, be aware of your surroundings, and allow others the choice of staying healthy.
