Video awards will kill the radio star
Tonight at 8, the video-or rather, the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards-will kill the radio star. A tradition since 1984, the VMAs are known for their shock-rock performances like Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” in the ’80s and Britney Spears ripping off her clothes in 2000 to reveal a flesh-colored, skin-tight suit.

The fashion at the VMAs is as attention-grabbing as the musical performances. Lil’ Kim, for example, showed up in 1999 with her entire breast exposed, leaving only a small piece of fabric to cover the nipple.
