‘Studio 3’ shines at final show

A New York Times critic once said that “ballet people…are a younger, more exciting crowd than the opera people.” No wonder, then, that many VCU students participate in or view the Richmond Ballet’s “Studio 3” performances.

For those hit by Cupid’s arrow, there is romance among four dancers. Two are married to each other: Katherine Lynch and Phillip Skaggs.

“I have been dancing since I was three years old,” Lynch said. “I was an apprentice for two years and have been with the company for six years. Doing so many styles in this production has been challenging yet fun.”

Another reason to see the performers is that three will be making their final adieu this season: Pedro Szalay, Jenna McClintock and Katherine Gansman. Together they have contributed 26 years total to the ballet.

Szalay performed like an unrequited lover. Dana
