The most romantic place on campus

Whenever I’m feeling down about my classes or life’s basic troubles, it’s nice to notice the small yet optimistic details that surround me that make life a bit more easygoing.

Just a sidewalk around Shafer and heading toward the University Student Commons is the most romantic place on campus – probably the most romantic place in the entire city.

Naturally occurring, without human consideration or development, is a street sign that gives a sentimental greeting to unsuspecting students passing by. From the slight bending of aluminum, along with the red brake lights of parked buses waiting to pick up students, one can make out a glowing red heart that pulses with each step.

Better seen at night (but it does work under many circumstances), the effect of the heart is immediately obvious and gratifying.

Great to point out to dates or friends, this spot has definitely become a small reminder that when college life seems to be getting too much, little signs of life can be simple yet comforting.
