Lambert shines at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG – Junior Davion Lambert (Richmond/Varina High School) set school records in the long jump and triple jump at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Invitational on Saturday.

His long jump of 25’1 3?4″ earned an NCAA provisional mark. Lambert will be notified by the NCAA whether his mark earns him an invitation to the national indoor meet in Fayetteville, Ark. this weekend. Ron Jones, who is an assistant track coach for the Rams, previously held the record.

Lambert registered a 49’4 1?2″ mark in his first triple-jump competition this season.

Mariusz Mostrag (Krajnik, Poland) placed first in the 800 meters, and Jay Wyss (Richmond/J.R. Tucker High School) and Riad Ouled (Fontainbleau, France) registered first- and second-place finishes respectively in the 3,000 meters.

School records broken during weekend meet

BLACKSBURG – Brandy Butler (Charlottesville High School), Sheemeca Berkley (Madison Heights/Amherst High School) and Octavia James (Newport News/Heritage High School) left their marks on the VCU record book at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Invitational on Saturday.

Butler broke the triple jump record previously held by teammate Vernice Johnson (Mineral/Louisa High School) with a jump of 38 feet 6 3?4 inches.

Berkley tied Adrienne Quesenberry’s school record in the long jump set in 1994 with a leap of 19’4″.

James tied the school record in the 60-meter hurdles held by teammate Pia Ruth (Rahway, N.J.) with a time of 8.99.

Chappel, VCU finish golf tourney in sixth

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Junior Daryl Chappell (Dinwiddie High School) was tied for first after the first day of the Orange County National Xavier Invitational during the weekend.

Chappell recorded rounds of 69 and 71 heading into the second day.

The Rams were in eighth place out of 15 teams after the first day.

Chappell slipped into a tie for sixth place at the tournament’s conclusion, but the Rams were able to jump from eighth to sixth.
