CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Top-ranked UNCW and third-seeded Hofstra will clash Monday night to determine who gets the Colonial’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Many say the loser might dance, too, with both teams packing 24 wins in a feisty league. UNCW is making their fourth appearance in the championship game in six years, while it’s Hofstra’s first since joining the league five seasons ago. UNCW has three trophies to show for those four games. CAA Coach of the Year Brad Brownell’s squad will have to stifle Hofstra’s Antoine Agudio, who tied the tournament record with 34 points against VCU Friday. Hofstra will need to thread through UNCW’s defense led by CAA All-Defensive Team member John Goldsberry. In the regular season, UNCW dropped a 92-87 triple-overtime game in Hempstead but won by nine a month later in Wilmington.
