Seahawks keep Rams at bay

After trailing by as many as 14 points with 8:53 left, center Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/ Great Bridge High School) and guard LaKea Jones (Fort Washington, Md.) sparked a 20-3 run with back-to-back 3-pointers. During the run when the score was 51-44, Jones hooked up with Vera Chistova (St. Petersburg, Russia), who hit a long three to cut to cut the margin within four.
After hitting another three with 4:57 left to make the score 51-50, the Rams then took the lead for a brief time when Chistova buried her second three of the night.
The Rams took the lead again, making the score 65-63, after Michele Cosel (Mechanicsville, Atlee High School) and forward Brittany Pinkney (Clifton, Md.) combined to hit three free throws. The Seahawks then forced overtime with a layup with 5 seconds to go.
The Rams faltered in overtime, going 0-for-8 in shooting to let the game slip away. Freshman Sasha Taylor came off the bench to provide the offense for the Seahawks, scoring a game-high 22 points.
