Richmond City Police yesterday identified Richard Murphy, 48, of the 2100 block of Third Avenue, as the man who was arrested Saturday after allegedly breaking into a downtown stained-glass shop and starting a fire,
Murphy faces charges of possessing firebomb materials, burglary and arson, Capt. Mark Segal told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
When officers arrived at the Sledd/Winger Glassworks & Gallery at about 7:30 p.m., Murphy was allegedly breaking windows at the shop. He then struggled briefly with police before being taken into custody.
Richmond locals Nancy and Hunter Sledd, and Mary Lu Winger Bennett own the shop, which sustained heavy damage in Saturday’s fire. It opened last Valentine’s Day.
