Since this fall, some faculty and staff have found themselves able to converse in Spanish-thanks to VCU’s free conversational Spanish courses.
“We started by proposing just two (courses),” said Cathy Howard, director of community programs, which planned the courses. “We had so many people who wanted to take those two classes that we scrambled and found instructors, and we were able to put together nine classes. And they all filled up. It blew us away to tell you the truth.”
Patricia Worley, director of outreach programs, enrolled in one class for personal and professional reasons.
“VCU and Richmond are becoming increasingly diverse,” she said.
