A police officer saved a woman’s life after she swallowed her false teeth while eating a sandwich.
Dmitar Tomasevic, 25, was walking down a street in Belgrade, Serbia, when he saw 77-year-old Jelena Momcilovic fall to the ground.
He picked her up and wrapped his arms around her diaphragm and squeezed – assuming she had choked on a sandwich she had been eating.
Instead, a pair of dentures flew out.
Tomasevic said, “Policemen are trained to be able to help people when they are choking and I’ve had to do it a few times before on some other people.
“But I’ve never seen a set of false teeth come flying out. Usually people have got much smaller things stuck in their throats. She’s lucky to be alive.”
Cat runs off with severed toe
A cat ran off with its owner’s toe after he accidentally chopped the appendage off and left it on the floor while he called an ambulance.
Udo Ried, 41, was slicing bread in his kitchen in Luebeck, Germany, when he dropped a large kitchen knife on to his bare foot, chopping off his second toe.
While Ried was hopping to the bathroom to get a bandage and attempting to use his mobile phone to call emergency services, his cat, Fritz, pounced on the bloody toe and ran off with it into the garden.
Ried tried to get the toe back but after a few minutes he was forced to abandon the search to seek medical attention.
A spokesman for Luebeck hospital said they would have been able to reattach the toe if the cat had not stolen it.
Prisoners escape at lunch time
A prisoner has escaped from a small jail in Brazil after a police officer left him in charge while he popped out for lunch.
The other inmates of the prison in Mara-Canau said the police officer regularly left the prison in the hands of the prisoner, known as Cristiano.
They said the policeman, Jose Wilton de Lima, had grown to trust the prisoner.
But Cristiano took advantage of the police officer’s lunch break by freeing two other inmates and driving off in his police car.
Lima, who has been dismissed from his job, said, “I guess I mixed up trust with freedom. I believed he had changed.”
The prisoners are still at large.

sweetheart robber
A masked robber was arrested after he held up a bank where his high school sweetheart worked – and she recognized him by his blue eyes.
The 21-year-old bank clerk was on duty in the Austrian lakeside town of Obermillstadt when a masked man carrying a gun burst in.
He demanded she hand over all the cash from the safe. She gave him the money and the man ran off.
But when the police came, the clerk told them she had recognized the robber as her first boyfriend and gave them his name.
Police arrested the man after they found the stolen money at his home.
