Food for thought from Franz
Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos has started writing a weekly food column in the Guardian of London. His first contribution appeared in the G2 section on Sept. 16. Called Soundbites, it will follow the singer and band’s food-related adventures as they travel the world on their forthcoming tour.

Student artist makes colorful solo debut
If you’re interested in the intellectual efforts of VCU art students, the University Student Commons is a great place to start. Exhibitions of pieces produced by VCU’s finest are on display all semester in the Student Art Gallery.
Matthew Ritchie, a senior painting and printmaking and sculpture major, has displayed his work before.
VOX to host concert with a message
Some cynics might say a problem with modern music is that the art has become more concerned with style than substance. On Sept. 23, the bands performing at the VOX ROX concert in Commons Plaza will try to bring a message back to the music.
Presented by Voices for Planned Parenthood, or VOX, the show will intertwine support for reproductive rights and sex education with live music.

A male was arrested for driving under the influence at West Broad and North Harrison streets.
A male was arrested for driving under the influence at South Laurel and Cumberland streets.

Behl still missing
Freshman Taylor Behl is still missing. Her car, however, was found Saturday on the 500 block of North Mulberry Street in Richmond’s Fan District.
The white 1997 Ford Escort was found about 8:30 a.m. by an off-duty Richmond police officer walking his dog in the area.
Potts to make getting a college education easier
Sen. H Russell Potts Jr., independent candidate for governor, took the stage at 3:30 p.m. He sounded off on several issues, including illegal immigration.
Potts said he thinks illegal immigrants should receive instate tuition if they meet requirements.
Kilgore to bring funds in to Virginia schools
Jerry Kilgore, Republican candidate for governor, discussed many issues and started off saying he views higher education as a public good.
“I know a little bit about what a college education can do,” he said mentioning it was an opportunity he was lucky to have, one that has opened many doors.
To move forward, ‘leave no part behind’
Lt. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, Democratic candidate for governor, began his speech by quoting Thomas Jefferson, who said progress could only be achieved through the broad diffusion of knowledge.
Kaine, who served as mayor of Richmond before becoming state lieutenant governor, said the point of education was not just to educate an individual, but also to promote progress for all.

In a story titled “Friends, family reflect on student’s life,” The CT stated the dean of Humanities and Sciences contacted Clarence Thomas about Ward’s death when in fact it was the dean’s office.
