Robbery raises campus awareness

As the school year started, many students anticipated homework and stress. What many did not expect was crime on campus.

Paul W. Timmreck, senior vice president for finance and administration, addressed the VCU community through e-mail about a robbery that occurred Aug.

Missing student

The VCU Police Department is now asking for help locating first-year student Taylor Marie Behl, who was reported missing last Thursday.

VCU Police said that Behl, a 17-year-old from Vienna in Fairfax County, was last seen leaving Gladding Residence Center around 10 p.m.

Students help save professor’s life

John Hartnett is teaching class with another chance at life.

Hartnett collapsed Aug. 29 during his psychology class. With the help of his students, he was all right by the time paramedics came.

According to the VCU Department of Psychology, Hartnett had a problem with his pacemaker but he was fine and came back teaching Aug.

White House dumps FEMA director as commander of Katrina relief efforts

WASHINGTON – The Bush administration dumped FEMA Director Michael Brown as commander of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts Friday, then abruptly scrapped plans to give $2,000 debit cards to displaced storm victims as it struggled to get a grip on the recovery operation.

A different impeachment call

For the past few years, the impeachment call against President Bush has clamored on, but generally without the benefit of substance. Instead it is a movement comprised of mobs chanting simple slogans fueled with vehement passion. A VCU student could go on his own scavenger hunt of anti-Bush propaganda and make several finds without having to stray off campus, let alone far from his dormitory.

Adapting to disability

Life is what happens when you want things to stay the same. Despite knowing that change is inevitable, we are dumbfounded when reality hits us head on. The “that could never happen to me” mentality usually prevails over the sheer common sense that it could happen to anyone, and it happens often.

The VCU women’s soccer team was unable to get a win in either of their games last weekend at the Nike Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg.

Sarah Johnson scored two goals in the contest as Dartmouth went on to a 3-1 victory.

A return to glory days past?

While growing up, my Sundays were spent not in pews but rather La-Z-Boys. Tortilla chips replaced wafers and Coke replaced wine as I sat in front of the television, waiting for what I worshipped most to take the field- the Washington Redskins.

A bit of an exaggeration I’ll admit, but you see where I am coming from when I describe to you the love I have for a team that has struggled repeatedly in years past.
