Field hockey earns first victory

The VCU field hockey team won for the first time this season after defeating visiting Longwood 1-0 Sunday. The long awaited victory came after a disappointing loss to the University of Richmond Friday when the Rams were shut-out 1-0.

VCU tops Florida Atlantic in double OT

It took 104 minutes of play, but VCU claimed their first home victory Friday night at the VCU/Eurosport Invitational, beating Florida Atlantic 2-1 in double overtime.

Pernilla Jansson (Sweden) scored the game-winning goal off an assist from fellow freshman Samara Stephen-Dowd (Vienna/Oakton High School).

Woman got pregnant after rollercoaster ride

A woman who thought she could not have children is now a mother – thanks to a white-knuckle rollercoaster ride.

Nayade Elbing, 28, and her husband Arnold had been trying to have children for several years without success and believed she was sterile.

Students who went to see nationally renowned hypnotist Tom DeLuca perform Wednesday at the University Student Commons Plaza probably expected to watch a group of attention-starved, class-clown types willingly submit to his pocket watch and imitate farm animals.

Alpha Phi Omega blood drive provides help to Hurricane Katrina victims, others

For some VCU students, generosity runs in their blood. Stirred by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, an ailing loved one or good will, they stood in line for as long as an hour to donate blood at Alpha Phi Omega’s two-day drive last week.

The event, co-sponsored by Virginia Blood Services, raised 138 pints of blood.

Campus vigil honors victims

Students, faculty and staff gathered in the University Student Commons Plaza Sunday evening in remembrance of those who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who perished in Hurricane Katrina.

As flags between the Commons Plaza and the Business Building flew at half-staff, SGA President Edward O’Leary addressed those who came to show their support.
