Rams women’s soccer team shuts out
cross-town rivals
Pernilla Jansson (Enebyberg, Sweden) scored two goals and goalkeeper Lauren Hardison (Midlothian/Clover Hill High School) recorded her first shutout of the season as the Rams topped the Spiders 2-0 at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium Monday.
Rams women’s soccer team shuts out cross-town rivals
Pernilla Jansson (Enebyberg, Sweden) scored two goals and goalkeeper Lauren Hardison (Midlothian/Clover Hill High School) recorded her first shutout of the season as the Rams topped the Spiders 2-0 at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium Monday.
Jansson’s first goal came on a shot from 18 yards out with five minutes left in the first half. The second was assisted by Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia). Jansson has four goals on the season, including two game-winners.
Hardison made three saves for the Rams, who avenged a 2-1 loss to the Spiders last season.
The Rams host CAA rival George Mason University at 7 p.m. Friday.
Lecloerec comes close
Second seed Arnaud Lecloerec (Plouhinec, France) fell 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals to University of Virginia’s Somdev Devvarman, the third seed, in the University
of Virginia Invitational Sept. 25.
Devvarman went on to win the championship over Luigi D’Agord 7-6, 6-3.
VCU heads to Tulsa, Okla., For the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American tournament Oct. 6-9.
Golf finishes eighth in Adams Cup
VCU finished the Adams Cup of Newport in eighth place in the 16-team tournament. Daryl Chappell (Richmond, Va.) led the Rams, shooting a 13 over 229. Chappell’s second round was even and finished 15th out of 80 participants.
Andrea Perrino (Livorno, Italy) finished five shots behind Chappell, and Manuel Relancio (Corrientes, Argentina) was seven behind the team leader.
Rams run to sixth place
Steve Walters (Virginia Beach/Green Run High School) placed fifth out of 133 runners Sept. 24 at the Great American Cross Country Festival. VCU came in sixth out of 15 teams.
The men’s cross-country team will run Saturday, Oct. 1 at Lehigh University.
