Rams claim titles in Williamsburg

The top-seeded pair of Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Olga Borisova (Minsk, Belarus) captured the Flight A doubles title at the Annual William and Mary Invitational.

The pair, which is ranked fourth nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association defeated No. 25 Tara Browning and Lakann Wagley of Texas Tech 9-7.

In the Flight C singles draw VCU’s Viktoria Konstantinova (Hanskovo, Bulgaria) won 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) over Boston College’s Lana Krapnopolsky.

Rams fall to Beavers in double OT

Oregon State got its revenge against the Rams women’s soccer team, scoring the lone goal of the match in double overtime to beat VCU in the OSU Nike Invitational Sun. Sept. 18.

The Rams defeated the Beavers 3-2 last season, tallying a golden goal game-winner.

Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) had six shot to pace, the Rams out shot the Beavers 21-11. Leigh Anthony registered five shots, but the Rams were unable to put the ball in the net.

Sandra Anger (Cuguen, France) had a good chance in the first half, and Shelley Lyle (Tampa, Fla.) had a similar opportunity in the second, but each shot sailed over the crossbar.

Anger and Jennifer Woodie (Woodbridge, Va.) made the all-tournament team.
