Although this is the band’s fifth release, thanks to Fox’s hit show “The O.C.,” many new listeners will probably never understand the depth this band possesses. Thankfully, “Plans” stays true to Death Cab’s indie roots, and allows long-time listeners to renounce their title as closet fans. Singer/songwriter Ben Gibbard still has an astonishing way of singing everything you feel poetically.

With lyrics such as: “It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend on a faulty camera in our minds/

But I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all,” Death Cab pulls you back to the days when you raced to stores to pick up earlier releases like “The Photo Album” and were blown away. Unlike their last album “Transatlanticism,” the lyrics in “Plans” masterfully juxtapose the joy of love and the pain of death.

Death Cab for Cutie is still able to write songs that give you chills, and make you think maybe it’s okay if your 16-year-old sister knows all the lyrics, too.
