Student yard sale offers treasure in trash
Got junk? Sell it! This Saturday the student Activities Programming Board is holding the first Cash for Trash. Students can take their unwanted belongings and sell them to other students who see their trash as potential treasure.
Held at the University Student Commons Plaza, Cash For Trash, a student-run flea market, is not an excuse to not take out the trash for the month.
Got junk?
At the end of the event all unwanted items can be donated to VCU recycling. Students like Tiffany Pereira, junior art history major, like the idea.
I think it’s a pretty good idea, I definitely have a bunch off stuff I wish I could sell at a yard sale,” she said.
First-year student Sherri Smith said, “Cash for Trash is a great way to get students involved in Earth Day.”
Katharine Hippchen, a junior agrees.
“Cash for trash is a great idea, it will give everyone a chance to meet others while finding really unique things for their apartments and selves,” she said.
Junior Andre Foxx who plans on participating in the event said, “Forget about textbook buybacks I’m trying to get some money with Cash for Trash.”
Weather reports, however, indicate a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday. Constantine Alexakos, coordinator of informal recreation and special events, said if this is the case the event will move inside the Student Commons in the Commonwealth Ballroom located on the second floor.
