* Heat check: Second baseman Scott Sizemore is hitting .442 with 14 games left. Sizemore should get about another 55 at-bats before the end of the season. He would have to hit .545 (30 of 55) to reach .470 and break the school record of .468 set by Erik Suave in 1994.
* Popping his collar: Outfielder Kwan Evans snapped out of an 0-for-10 slump with a double against George Mason on Sunday. He went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored Tuesday against Longwood.
* Calling for back up: Reliever Mike Gibbs says he’s ready to regroup after giving up eight earned runs in a 21-6 loss to George Mason Saturday. The problem, he said was more mechanical than anything else. The junior college transfer said he was dropping down on his backside during his release, which took about 7 mph off a fastball that usually hangs around the low 90s.
