After sixteen years together Green Day still rocks! They played ODU’s Constant Convocation Center Friday, April 22nd at 8:00pm. My Chemical Romance opened the show for half an hour. They rocked, but could not compare to Green Day. Before the show was about to start, everyone’s favorite drinking bunny came out and downed two bottles of beer to get the crowd ready. When Green Day came on, they started out with some new hit songs off of their Grammy award winning American Idiot album, of course opening with “American Idiot.” Next they moved on to the older hits (like “Maria,” “She,” “Minority,” and “Basket case,” so as not to disappoint the fans. I thought it was awesome when they sang that old song “Shout!” As the show was about ready to draw to a close, the band performed “We are the Champions.” These songs were unexpected, but they pulled them off perfectly. There was only one song left to finish off the night, one of the greatest songs ever, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” Lead vocalist and guitar player (and in my opinion the very hot), Billy Joe, performed it on stage alone.
They kept up the energy the whole show and did not disappoint their fans. The crowd cheered the whole show. Whether they are bringing out the Super Soakers, pulling the up fans on stage to play, or performing hits their hit songs, Green Day still knows how to put on a show after all of these years. The pyrotechnics were all on cue and loud. Everyone was totally into the show and screaming their lungs out. As at any concert, souvenirs and food were pricy. Shirts were like $25, but that did not prevent many fans from spending their hard earned money (including myself). I could never get enough Green Day, but was completely satisfied with the show. I would have to say the money spent, some permanent hearing loss suffered, and the hoarseness after the show were totally worth it.
