Lost City Angels’ debut a boost

“Broken World,” the Lost City Angels’ debut album on Stay Gold Records, is nothing short of satisfying. With powerful lyrics, melodic guitar lines and a sound that reminds you of what punk bands used to sound like, they have no problem taking the edge off of an emotional day or giving you an extra boost of adrenaline. Their sound is easily comparable to that of The Living End, Green Day or Rancid.

“Liberation,” the first song on the album sets a strong opening. It begins with a wicked drum riff and explodes into heavy guitar leaving the listener slightly drained. As the album progresses, its songs move from slower, screamy, emotional songs to very up-tempo, angry songs.

“Broken World,” the hit off the album, is simply a medium rock tune. With heavy bass lines and nice harmonizing, the decent guitar solo halfway through caught me off guard. You mean these guys are one of the few punk bands that can actually play their instruments? Weird…

Although the music is great on the album, an honorable mention definitely goes to the production. Despite hearing this album through lower quality speakers, it sounded like the band was in the room with me.

The guitars sound so hard, sharp and clear you can almost taste them. If you are looking for road trip music, something you and your friends can sing to or music to enhance pretty much anything, try Lost City Angels’ debut. You won’t be disappointed.
