End of a great man
The death of Pope John Paul II this week – or Karol Wojtyla as Poland knew him before he was elevated to the rank of Pope – marks the passing of an era. Was there ever a Pope in history who was so universally admired, so faithful in living up to the ideals of his faith?
The Vatican is not only home to the Catholic faith, but a city-state with ambassadors to 173 countries. As much as politicians these days talk about their “pro-life” policies, the Pope was consistent across the board, opposing both abortion and the death penalty as well as promoting peace throughout the world.
He will be missed, and we can only hope that his replacement will live up to his legacy.
Multicultural weekend
Congratulations to the organizers of the VCU French Film Festival and the Intercultural Festival, which took place this weekend. Thanks to events like these, VCU is truly living up to its slogan as “Your Key to the World.” Now if only more people would use the key.
