Contractor sued over Ramz Hall fire

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Thursday that RAMZ LLC sued contractors KBS Inc. and McCormick Architects & Designers for negligence and breach of contract for $2.2 million to cover losses from the fire.

Those losses include the $1 million spent to house 172 VCU students at the Radisson Hotel when the dorm failed to open on schedule.

The law suit claims that proper fire extinguishing equipment wasn’t present on the construction site and that the employees weren’t properly trained.

KBS president Bill Paulette could not be reached for comment and the owner of McCormick Architects did not reply to phone calls from the Times-Dispatch.
