New engineering building by 2007

When the School of Engineering first set up shop at VCU, the school’s administration planned to construct another building as the engineering student population grew.

The original L-shaped Engineering Building, said Barton Cregger, associate dean of the engineering school was meant to be duplicated on the same block. Then the opportunity arose for a conjoined building with the School of Business, he said, so the school’s administrators scratched the duplicate plans and started planning the second building for the Monroe Park Campus Addition.

That 125,000-square-foot building – which is about the same size as the existing building – will be situated east of Belvidere Street at the corner of Belvidere and Main streets, Cregger said.
