“The Wedding Date” is a light-hearted, entertaining comedy that you may want to consider seeing if take your date to a movie on Valentine’s Day weekend. But when you are deciding on a movie, keep in mind, this romantic comedy has all the dynamics of a ‘chick flick’ with entangled relationships and predictable endings.
Kat Ellis, played by “Will and Grace” star Debra Messing, is a single woman who hires an escort, Nick Mercer, played by Dermot Mulroney, for $6,000 to accompany her to her sister Amy’s wedding in England. Kat intends to make her ex-fiance- who will be attending the wedding- jealous of her “new boyfriend.”
Once they are in England, you are introduced to her quirky friends and family to whom she lies about Nick’s profession. Kat and Amy’s single British friend TJ makes the movie more comedic with her jabs of blunt, sarcastic humor.
The relationships between sisters and lovers get more complex as the story unfolds. But the twists and turns do not prevent it from being predictable.
If you are looking for a light movie to simply entertain you for Valentine’s Day, this should be the one.
