Ketchup versus Mustard

By the time you read this, Election Day will be over, and we’ll all know who our next president will be – or will we?

Both parties have geared up their legal machines to prepare for lengthy court battles in any part of the country where voting is so close that a legal decision may have the final say in who becomes president.

Early Tuesday morning, a federal appeals court cleared the way for Republicans to post “challengers” at Ohio voting booths to make sure voters who show up at the polls are eligible to vote.

Democrats will be allowed to have challengers present too, but opposed the practice because they thought it amounted to voter intimidation.

But the serious challenges that face us still leave room for some good old-fashioned American humor. The day before Election Day, the Gallup polling agency found that the election may come down to our condiment preference, with a majority of mustard supporters voting for Bush and those who prefer ketchup voting for Kerry.

In the end, though, we all need to remember that whatever condiment we use, it will always fall on the same big hot dog that is America.
