Davey sets two VCU records
Senior Shaunette Davey earned two new Virginia Commonwealth records at the University of South Florida Bulls Invitational Saturday.
Davey finished second overall in the 200- and 400-meter events, automatically qualifying for the NCAA East Regionals after running the 400 in 54.

Davey finished second overall in the 200- and 400-meter events, automatically qualifying for the NCAA East Regionals after running the 400 in 54.84 seconds. The prior VCU record was 55.71 seconds, which was set by Gabrielle DeShong in 1999. Davey also broke a 10-year-old record in the 200 meter, with a finish of 24.52.
Senior Rachel Taft ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 12:22.51 to earn a second-place finish. The 4 x 100-meter relay team (Davey, LaShay Garland, Katrina Cromwell, Courtney Green) also finished in second place with a time of 47.16.
Jennelle Holmes was the top Ram finisher in the field events. Holmes finished third out of 20 in the javelin with a throw of 34.66 meters.
Freshman Tanika Brown finished sixth in the high jump (5-5 3/4) and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.98). Garland finished eighth in the 100 meters (12.43). Freshman Zanishia Usher also finished eighth in the long jump (17-8 1/4). Junior Priscilla Wallace earned an eighth place finish in the 5,000 meters (19:09.10).
