Men’s Tennis ranked 15th nationally For two consecutive weeks, Men’s Tennis at VCU has been ranked No. 15 nationally in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings. At the time of the last poll, the Rams were 18-3 for the season. The last time the team performed they came up with a 7-0 win against Colorado.

Men’s Tennis ranked 15th nationally

For two consecutive weeks, Men’s Tennis at VCU has been ranked No. 15 nationally in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

At the time of the last poll, the Rams were 18-3 for the season. The last time the team performed they came up with a 7-0 win against Colorado. The team’s next match is April 5, against Old Dominion, who are currently ranked 69th. Men’s Tennis plays at home next, April 11 against 51st place Louisville at 3 p.m.

Women’s relay team dominates Tribe Invitational

Last weekend, both the men and women’s track teams competed in the William & Mary Tribe Invitational.

Senior Shaunette Davey finished first in the 100-meter dash in 12.24 seconds. Senior Katrina Cromwell finished right behind her with a time of 12.58.

Freshmen Zanishia Usher also earned a first-place finish for VCU, running the 200-meters in 26.22 seconds. Freshman Kristina Rios ran the 400-meters in 60.02 to earn a first-place finish for the Rams.

In the relays, the women’s B team finished first in the 4×100 with a time of 48.19. The A team finished second, with a time of 48.82. In the 4×200, the B team finished in 1:43.81 to grab first place and again, the A team came in second with a time of 1:46.58. Only one VCU team competed in the 4×400 and finished in first place with a time of 4:01.66.

For the men, senior Will Lawrence was the top finisher, clearing 15’5/75″ for a third-place pole vault finish. Freshman Peter Gardella placed third in the 200-meters with a finish of 24.46 seconds. Freshman Tylen Hazard finished fourth (25.23).

Gardella also finished in third place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 60.86. Sophomore James Abraham finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 88.7 feet.

The women’s team will split up, traveling to the University of South Florida and Christopher Newport for competitions running April 4-5. The men’s team will compete in Williamsburg April 4-5.
