VCU students browse latest Parisian fashions

During spring break, 22 VCU students and faculty traveled overseas to observe some of the latest styles in the Paris fashion industry. While there, the team took day trips to Lyon and Versailles, though the trip focused primarily on Paris.

“In the fashion industry you don’t just work here in the United States,” said Donna Reamy, a faculty member who accompanied the group on the trip.

During spring break, 22 VCU students and faculty traveled overseas to observe some of the latest styles in the Paris fashion industry. While there, the team took day trips to Lyon and Versailles, though the trip focused primarily on Paris.

“In the fashion industry you don’t just work here in the United States,” said Donna Reamy, a faculty member who accompanied the group on the trip. “As fashion professionals you have to work with the rest of the world.”

Through the trip, sponsored by the fashion design and merchandising department, students became exposed to different cultures, said Reamy, the assistant chair of the department.

“Fashion isn’t just created here. It’s created everywhere, and there’s a lot of influence,” Reamy said, adding that the group stayed at the Hotel de Castiglione. “Right across from the President’s (Jacques Chirac) palace, which is right in the heart of the fashion district.”
