‘Boat Trip’ pushes caution overboard
In a cruel twist of fate (or rather of Will Ferrel’s hand, Jerry (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Nick (Horatio Sanz), two of the straightest guys out there end up vacationing on a gay cruise. Naturally these two, who border on being homophobic, freak out and try to find a way off the boat.
In a cruel twist of fate (or rather of Will Ferrel’s hand, Jerry (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Nick (Horatio Sanz), two of the straightest guys out there end up vacationing on a gay cruise. Naturally these two, who border on being homophobic, freak out and try to find a way off the boat. However, the unexpected arrival of the Swedish tanning team and of the cruise’s entertainment director Gabriela (Roselyn Sanchez), who ends up being the object of Jerry’s affection, change things a bit.
Long story short, Jerry decides to pretend that he is gay because the generally half-dressed Gabriela confesses that on gay cruises she sometimes asks the men for special favors because she knows that they aren’t just using her for sex. This leads to many hilarious situations for Jerry.
Meanwhile, Nick, who is also pretending to be gay so that the Swedish tanning team will trust him to oil them down, has his eye set on the very blonde, very “gifted” Inga. However, their evil tanning coach discovers some evidence that reveals Nick’s heterosexual tendencies. She forbids him to talk to Inga again. After a crazy mix up of room numbers, she sets her eye on him. This wouldn’t be so bad if she didn’t look more like a prune than a woman.
Using a baseball bat, she tries to demonstrate her skills to Nick, but all that does is make him think that he might be gay. So, as Nick is traveling down the path to a possible preference change, the movie really picks up the comedy with Jerry, who has signed up to be part of the dance team that Gabriela just happens to be training.
