Water to be cut off in Hibbs, due to budget cuts

Last week, students entered the Hibbs building greeted by flyers posting a schedule for running water to the building. Due to budget cuts, the bathrooms and water fountains would only be available during strict hours.
However, these postings were a fabrication, a farce, and should not be taken seriously as currently university policy.

Poor study habits, good grades

An annual study based on a survey of last fall’s freshmen found that their grades weren’t affected by their poor study habits, which are the worst seen in 15 years. The study, which was released Monday, was conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California. It found that 33.4 percent of college freshmen spent less than six hours per week studying or doing homework during their senior year in high school. Despite those figures, more than 45 percent of freshmen said they managed to graduate high school with an ‘A’ average. Alexander Astin, who started the survey in 1966, attributed the high grades to grade inflation. He said teachers are pressured by teens and parents to make the students more competitive for college.

Small dog has big job

Kelly, a German hunting terrier, is believed to have become the smallest dog in the world to graduate from police training school. The canine, which stands 22cm tall, will help Dutch federal police officers trace robbers and missing persons. Police spokesman Dirk Staal said the training school normally works with Dutch and German Shepherds. Most dogs, he said, start training when they are about a year old. Kelly, however, started when she was just seven weeks old. Staal said Kelly’s size allows him to search easily under cars, in bushes and in cellars. He also eats less food than a bigger dog would. A robber might laugh at Kelly, Staal said, but he won’t laugh long.
