Seahawks beat Rams in rematch of last year’s CAA Championship
The league-leading field goal percentage defense of the VCU men’s basketball team proved on match for the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington Saturday, as the Rams played toward their worst CAA loss ever, 81-50.
This was a rematch of last year’s CAA Championship game at the Richmond Coliseum, where UNC-Wilmington won 66-51.
After the Whistle
There were many great ads during the big game, but space is limited, so I’ll only mention a few. It was great seeing Ozzy in the Pepsi Twist ads, and I thought the Jordan versus Jordan ad was very well done. The Budweiser ad with the horses waiting for the zebra to review the play was good, but it kind of hit a nerve so soon after the Giants’ loss. An actual zebra could have made that call…but I digress.

Wasting an Opportunity
That’s what we as students are squandering. With the all-important conference schedule in full swing, our own team should be playing in front of a packed house night in and night out. Instead, our players compete in front of a mostly uninspired, unmotivated crowd. Last year, VCU went 13-1 at home, including an undefeated conference record. Average attendance: Less than 5,000 per game. This year, the team has already lost two home games, and the average attendance is about 1,500 less than last year, at a sad 3,530 per game.
‘The Meeting’ answers a looming ‘What If?’
The premise was simple, a hypothetical meeting of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, but the layers of conflicting views and innuendos were quite meaningful. Having the stage only include a few plain pieces of furniture and a speaking platform kept the audience’s attention on the actors and their interaction that the play centered on.
‘Darkness Falls’ is a B-movie wannabe
While this isn’t a crucial part of the movie, it’s the way the creators of “Darkness Falls” should have gone with their Tooth-Fairy-gone-evil tale. They could have easily given into the idea that their film was a “B” movie. Heck, they should have embraced it.

‘American Idol’ or American humiliation, Simon’s silver tongue wags again
A week ago Tuesday, the second season of Fox’s “American Idol” kicked off two weeks of auditions held in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Nashville, Tenn. and Detroit. Millions of hopefuls traveled hours from home and camped out for days in freezing temperatures just for a chance to audition for Randy, Paula, and of course, the infamous Simon Cowell.
Authority Zero tours to promote their album ‘A Passage in Time’
Despite the catchy lyrics and powerful chord pounding that came from the opening bands at the Canal Club show this past weekend, Authority Zero took the show to the max with its fast grind accented by Jason DeVore’s speedy singing.
What estate tax is fair?
The estate tax or death tax, as it is sometimes called, might be eliminated if some legislators have their way. Consider what it might mean.
