Since game one of the regular season, when the VCU men’s basketball team made 15 of 26 free throw attempts in a 38-point blowout of Illinois State University, we knew the Rams’ shooting woes might affect their chances at making another tournament run in March.
After shooting 55 percent from the floor, VCU men’s basketball defeated Illinois State University 96-58 in the season-opener at the Siegel Center on Friday night.
In addition to its recent ranking of 15th in the national coaches poll, the VCU men’s basketball team was predicted to win the Atlantic 10 this upcoming season when official conference projections were released in the midst of A-10 Media Day on Oct. 8.
The men’s basketball season does not open until November, but VCU fans can get an early look at the team on Oct. 13.
