Two hundred days after VCU introduced Beth O’Boyle as the new women’s basketball head coach, the O’Boyle era officially tipped off against Wagner College on Friday, Nov. 14.
It won’t stand in the record books, but the VCU men’s basketball team made the final exhibition game before the start of the season count, as the Rams dominated California University of Pennsylvania Friday, Nov. 7, winning the contest 92-43.
The usual elements of a VCU men’s basketball game were there.
VCU women’s lacrosse program is still a year away, but for head coach Jen Kasper O’Brien, coaching the club women’s lacrosse team has been her solace. With anticipation growing for the inaugural year and preparations for the new club WLAX season in progress, O’Brien welcomes seven new players to the fold: a seven-person freshmen recruiting class who will act as the foundation for the startup program, as well as an eager club squad, some of whom hope to make the jump to the Atlantic 10 conference next year.
In March of this year, VCU’s athletic program unveiled a new logo for the second time in as many years, toward the end of the 2013-14 school year. The logo was not placed on VCU apparel until Aug. 16 when the Black and Gold Volleyball scrimmage served as the official start of the 2014-15 calander year and introduction of the logo on VCU team uniforms.
