After three successful weekends, “Shadow Play” has come to a close. Described by many in the theatre department as the most innovative play Theatre VCU has ever produced, the production packed the Raymond Hodges Theatre at W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts repeatedly, seeing full houses for at least half of the twelve showings.

Told from the point of view of an artist (Andrew Donnelly, senior, theatre performance) transported into the world of his own creations, “Shadow Play,” uniquely combined elements of shadow puppetry, light puppetry, 2-D and 3-D animation as well as other aspects of theatre and dance.

Impressive sequences resulted in the appearance of interaction between the artist and his own shadow. Sword-fighting, blow-up-doll-slaying, stalactite-dodging antics provided a varied look into why directors David S. Leong, Leland Faulkner and Gary C. Hopper had their cast and crew sign a confidentiality agreement during pre-production.
