Your Turn Letters to the Editor: Will the real Donald Trump please shut up?

Am I the only person who is completely sick of the whole Donald/Rosie battle? Apparently not, because it continues to be published as if it were the script from a kindergarten class name-calling contest. One would think that after decades of being made fun of that Donald Trump wouldn’t get so riled up over Rosie O’Donnell saying that he had no right to be “the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America.

Am I the only person who is completely sick of the whole Donald/Rosie battle? Apparently not, because it continues to be published as if it were the script from a kindergarten class name-calling contest. One would think that after decades of being made fun of that Donald Trump wouldn’t get so riled up over Rosie O’Donnell saying that he had no right to be “the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America.” While I disagree with the childish antics of these two semi-celebrity figures, many of the accusations that O’Donnell has thrown out ring all too true. I think it bothers Trump that she has finally said all of the things many desperately wanted to say to him but have not had the courage. Trumps comeback remarks hardly do him justice in proving that money is obtained through intelligence. His backlash at O’Donnell included making comments such as calling her a “bully” and stating that she is a “very dumb human being” and that “she’s got no intelligence.”

At the very least, Trump has shown a complete lack of originality in his comments. He targeted Barbara Walters, claiming she is a “liar” after having a conversation with Walters in which he claims that Walters stated that O’Donnell “wouldn’t be around long.” As the insults fly, America becomes ever more involved in the drama created by it. Has our society become so jaded that celebrities are concerned that we secretly long for the inevitable verbal wars that occur between two people on such opposite sides of the spectrum? Obviously we have because the more they argue, the more we pay attention. What makes O’Donnell the smart party here? The fact that she mentions something nasty about him on “The View” almost on a daily basis shows what a keen business sense she could truly have. By mentioning the battle with Trump on the show, she has increased her viewer base, and as long as the saga continues, the ratings continue to climb. All of this while Trump can only sit back and sling useless insults to anyone who will listen, usually ending up on the last three minutes of an obscure TV show that no one watches.

While America sits and waits for the next round of insults to begin, I think, I’ll switch the channel and find some of those 80s cartoons William Huszar mentioned. At the very least the characters seem more intelligent.
