Men’s Soccer

George Mason University slipped one in for a shutout against VCU Friday night at SportsBackers Stadium.

The lone point of the game came in the last 30 seconds of the first half when Francis McCardle passed to Richard Edgar who sailed the ball over Andrew Dykstra’s (Woodbridge/Osbourn Park HS) head and into the net.

The lone point of the game came in the last 30 seconds of the first half when Francis McCardle passed to Richard Edgar who sailed the ball over Andrew Dykstra’s (Woodbridge/Osbourn Park HS) head and into the net.

By the end of the first half, the Rams and the Patriots had only one shot on goal before GMU put their shot in.

At halftime, the Richmond Strikers U10 Donovan and Beckham teams played a Black vs. White scrimmage match in the midfield while the Rams and the Patriots practiced.

In the second half of the match, VCU picked up three more shots on goal, all of which Sean Kelley saved for GMU.

Both teams took seven shots all game, shooting four in the first half and three in the second.

Field Hockey

The Rams lost two games Thursday and Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. First, they fell to Michigan 1-5 and then were shutout 0-4 by Ohio State.

Emily Guerra (Yorktown/Seton Hall HS) scored the first point of the game – VCU’s only point with an assist from Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England).

The Wolverines more than doubled VCU’s shots on goal at 15-7, shooting 31 shots to VCU’s 10.

Friday, when VCU was shutout by the Buckeyes, Amanda Kelly (Chesapeake/Great Bridge HS) and Vicky Smith (Rumson, N.J.) each got VCU’s only two shots, but only one of them was on goal.

Men’s Tennis

Arnaud Le Cloerec (Plouhinec, France) met the end of his run at the ITA Mideast Regional Saturday due to an injury.

Le Cloerec made it as far as the quarterfinal round before his injury put him out of his match with North Carolina’s Ben Carlotti.
