Men’s soccer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Rams lost another regular season game 1-3 when they went up against eighth-ranked University of North Carolina on Tuesday.

David Rosenbaum (Munich, Germany) converted a through ball from Matthijs Maruanaya (Alkmaar, Netherlands) for VCU’s only point of the game in the second half.

UNC’s Michael Callahan scored the Tar Heels’ first point of the match 5 minutes before the end of the first half.

Stephen Bickford and Scott Campbell scored UNC’s final two points within two minutes of each other halfway through the second half.

Women’s soccer

WILLIAMSBURG – The women’s soccer team gained a 3-1 victory in a match with N.C. State on Sunday.

The Rams out shot the Wolfpack 21-6, collecting 8-3 shots-on-goal.

Hayley Moorwood (Auckland, New Zealand) and Megan Flanagan (Franktown, Colo.) worked together getting the ball to Pernilla Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden), who scored the first point of the game in the first 5 minutes.

For the Wolfpack, Jessica O’Rourke converted an assist from Katie Ruiz to score a header off the corner of

the goal.

The final two points of the game were scored in the second half, first unassisted by Stephanie Power (Datmouth, Nova Scotia) – a shot from 25 yards out – Jansson then put in another off the right corner with help from Leigh Anthony (Fredericksburg/W.T. Woodson).

Field Hockey

FARMVILLE – VCU lost 2-3 Sunday to the Longwood Lancers.

Kelsey Turner from LU scored the first point of the game after the two-minute mark only to have Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England) turn around a minute later and tie up the game.

In the 43rd minute, Rebecca Sullivan (Fredericksburg/Stafford HS) kicked out to Jenna Harris (Aurora, Colo.) who scored on a wide-open net for VCU’s second and final point.

The shooting was even after the game with VCU shooting 5-9 against Longwood in the first half and 9-3 in the second. The teams were even closer in shots-on-goal, 12-11.
