Man goes 33 years without sleep
A 64-year-old Vietnamese man claims to have never been ill in the past three decades, due to his inability to sleep.
Thai Ngoc has said he could not sleep at night after getting a fever in 1973, and has spent more than 11,700 consecutive sleepless nights.
“I don’t know whether the insomnia has impacted my health or not,” Ngoc said. “But I’m still healthy and can farm normally like others.”
“My husband used to sleep well, but these days, even liquor cannot put him down,” his wife said.
Ngoc currently lives on his farm and is kept busy farming and taking care of pigs and chickens all day. His six children live at their house in Que Trung.
“I have tried sleeping pills and Vietnamese traditional medicine but nothing helps, even to sleep for a few minutes,” he said.
Phan Ngoc Ha, director of the Hoa Khanh Mental Hospital in Danang said sleep disorders often cause anorexia, lethargy and irritability, but in special cases some people can still live and work normally.
German hospital for brokenhearted opens
A hospital clinic for the heartbroken has been set up in Germany to give emergency treatment to those who have been dumped.
Set up by Munich-based Dr. Birgit Delisle, the clinic in the Schwabing Hospital is aimed primarily at lovesick teenagers who do not know how to cope with a broken heart.
“Having your heart broken can lead to physical and psychological problems, from loss of appetite which leads to sudden weight loss to unbelievable pain that drives many people to take drastic measures,” Delisle said.
The free clinic will have experts on hand to advise both sexes on how to adjust to being single.
Dentist gives dog a golden reward
A Bosnian dentist has given his pet dog a gold tooth as a reward for his continued loyalty.
Milan Vujnovic said his eight-month-old Russian terrier Atos knows the gold tooth is ‘special.’
“He likes the fact that he has a gold tooth,” Vujnovic said. “He often shows it off because he knows it is something different and special.”
“The Russian terrier is the smartest of all dogs and Atos deserved a special tooth because he is so loyal and special to me.
“It took me four hours to put the gold cover on his tooth but all the time he just sat there and didn’t move an inch. He was as good as gold.”
He also said he had no fear thieves might try and steal his dog to take the gold tooth.
“Atos is descended from the dogs that were used by the Soviet KGB. He’s not a dog that would ever allow himself to get stolen,” Vujnovic said.
