BOSTON – Quanitra Hollings-worth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge High School) scored 17 of her team-high 19 points, but it was not enough to lift VCU to a victory against Northeastern.

Junior Miranda Smith (Chesapeake/Indian River High School) and junior LaKea Jones (Fort Washington, Md.) tallied 13 points apiece, which is a career high for Smith. Jones also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Rams, who led 40-38 at the half, had trouble stopping a high-powered Huskies offense led by Maralene Zwarich and Quiana Copeland in the back-and-forth game.

The game featured 13 lead changes and 12 ties, but a 23-9 run midway through the second half gave the Huskies the lead for good.

The Rams cut the lead to 82-78 with just under 2 minutes remaining before the Huskies scored five of the final seven points to secure the win.

Michele Cosel (Mechanicsville/Atlee High School) registered 12 points for the Rams.

Zwarich scored a game-high 25 points, including a 10-for-10 night at the free-throw line, for the Huskies, who shot 86.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Copeland scored 20 points, Shaleyse contributed 18 and Ashlee Feldman added 16 for the Huskies.

Krystal Vaughn (Baltimore, Md.) gave the Rams a two-point halftime lead by drilling a jumper with 22 seconds left.
