Rowdies want students to ‘join the herd’

Calling all teasers, yellers, screamers, hecklers and just plain hoops fans.

The Rowdy Rams have scheduled their first meeting of the school year for Monday Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in Richmond Salon II in the University Student Commons.

The group will hand out pizza and free T-shirts at the general interest meeting, and VCU men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel and women’s basketball coach Beth Cunningham are expected to make cameos along with a few of their athletes.

The club causes mayhem during basketball games from its special section in the Stuart C. Seigel Center, and also takes its act on the road, serving as VCU’s sixth man for away games.

The Rowdy Rams membership fee is $15, and there will be a raffle to give away two free memberships.

“We expect great things this year from our sports programs,” Rowdy Rams co-president Wil Yow said in a statement. “We want to be a part of their success.”
